Crackle

Crackle

A Poem by The Analog Kid
"

While trolling YouTube, I found an old favorite song playing on a turntable.

"

Some days you just have

to stay up and write

regardless

of how tired you are

because your soul

is probably

more

weary than you are

and since you were

looking for

something online

you found it.

inadvertently.

that nugget from your

boyhood past

you used to play the

hell out of it

on your Walkman

the fact that

some random GUY

bought the album

you never had it.

at least

had it on vinyl.

he put it on You Tube

with all its crackle

and pop

and said he bought

it for a buck

at a thrift shop

this took me back

even farther

and brought a tear to my eye

I used "GUY" because it's a guy type song/music.

nostalgia is a funny things... people feel guilty about it sometimes, because it's like looking back and not being content with what you have, but it's utterly necessary to do so. Our past shapes us.

Your poem was direct, simple and pithy, and I enjoyed reading it.

Music is often recycled and reused for our advantage and entertainment. And it's always a curious feeling when a song comes on that you haven't heard in years. For that brief moment...time freezes...the beat is there as if you just heard it yesterday...the words return from distant memory. It's like seeing a friendly ghost. Or like hearing the voice of a long lost friend.

Music for me has the ability to bring me back or take me away. I get lost in songs I love. Some old country makes me crave a beer, some alternative music makes me want to punch the wall, and many songs made me smile or brought a tear to my eyes; all this emotion evoked by memories stirred by the tune or words of the music...

Great Write Kid!!!

yeah Kid! I do sometimes miss that Crackle and Pop of the old turntable, hey don't forget the wow and flutter too. It added another dimension to the music.

it's funny how unsuspecting experiences, like these, can resurrect aspects of your childhood with a new level of depth

I love that kind of nostalgia.

love this. music gives memories teeth to bite and lips to kiss.

I still listen to my records and 8-tracks sometimes. sounds better with the white noise.

I broke out some old records last week. Those pops and skips are like going back to those moments all over again. Certain memories are triggered by music very easily. I liked this one Pat. Nice words to hear.
