Grandpa Asks

Grandpa Asks

A Poem by MerylDivya

My boy, the old man exclaims
How was church today?
The same as usual Grandpa
after a long service, we play
.

Oh I know you like to play
instead of listen to the Pastor

I do Grandpa but I also know
the lessons I have to master

Grandpa smiles and asks the boy
What is the greatest commandment then?
To love the Lord with all your heart
and all your brethren.

I'll give you this dollar
if you can tell me your basis for belief
Answer me this and the money is yours
and a chore free week of relief

The boy looks his Grandpa straight in the eye
the boy speaks without a waver
Jesus died on a cross for you and I
This alone makes Him my Savior

I will achieve great missions
with faith the size of a mustard seed
With my life to the Lord's submission
I will choose to do the good deed

Grandpa gave the boy the dollar
Watched him run to play
Felt the old cross around his collar
And decided it was time to pray

This was great. You pay close attention to the elements of poetry, but an even closer eye to the human elements that bring this poem and its' meaning to life. Well done.

Creative writing and art are my pastimes. I'd love to put together a book but I enjoy poetry more than novel writing and there is not a current market for poetry books. Too bad and so sad. I have a de.. more..
