A Chapter by Debbie Barry

Written in 12th grade, a sonnet about Christian faith.

October 15, 1986

Children of a vengeful God,
Living life in fear and shame,
Come from out of Egypt's land
To the place of love's abode
Where hope and peace come from His hand
And God of Mercy is His name.
Royal children of a holy King,
Saved by His son's will to die,
Live for Right in years to come,
And to their world a judgement bring,
Once He has found His Heav'nly home,
That the law of Herod was a lie.
Holy Christ who, dying, saved us -
Know ye all: His name is Jesus!

For Tricia, Lois, Arlene, Betty, Marian, and all the rest - in honor of the loving, merciful God in our lives, and in thanks for the fellowship we share by His grace.
