A Chapter by Debbie Barry

Written at Basic Training, a poem about my father, during a schism between us. The rift has long-since been mended.

July 6, 1987

I am afraid.
I fear a man
Who was given me
By God.
I fear him
Who fathered me.
I fear him,
For his influence
On my mind is strong.
I fear my thoughts
Of my father.
I fear God's son
Who has been touched
By Satan.
