A silly nursery rhyme that popped into my head in the night.

Paperless Airplanes

 

Our little paper airplane notes

Are made of paper no more;

We type our words upon a screen,

And around the world they soar.

A great, well-written little poem. For this oldling, it's mostly a sad statement, though I have to appreciate the way the internet has facilitated my making of friends the world over. Still, flying that little airplane note in study hall was memorable.

Thanks, Samuel. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, it was meant to be a sad statement, with a touch of nostalgia. I miss paper airplanes and those little, triangular, paper "footballs" we sometimes used to pass notes. I have some good memories of passing notes in classes and study halls.

Still, I, too, appreciate the way the Internet has fascilitated so many aspects of my life. I wouldn't be in touch with so many family members and friends without it, nor would I be likely to have published my books.

On the other hand, by the time I reached 12th grade, I was in regular correspondence, by traditional mail, with at least 27 penpals, in almost as many countries. Waiting weeks for letters to travel around the world and back was part of the fun and excitement of those communications.

Yes, it was a lot. LOL I drove my mom nuts with buying stamps! I hand-wrote letters to them all, though, never longer than three days after receiving their letters. We exchanged pictures, cards, and small gifts, too.

I love the way your message brings to mind all the ways I used to choose cards & papers with care (long ago), to convey my messages to others. Thanks, Margie! I'm really pleased you like it. I used to choose cards and stationery, too. It was an important part of the interactions. Plain notebook paper wasn't acceptable, except in emergencies.
