Poor Baby

Poor Baby

A Poem by Debbie Barry
"

A new nursery rhyme, which popped into my head in the night. This one is sad. Newgate was, among other things, the prison for debtors.

"

Poor Baby

There’s a baby crying,

Don’t you hear it wail?

Its mama’s up in Heaven;

Its dad’s in Newgate jail.
