A Poem by h d e rushin

So
i'm  hitch-hiking
cross merica she says
as this guy
in
a mercidies rolls up next to me
and says, "you wanna ride"?
Yes, i do
first
and i tell him i'm transgendered

what it means
to wake up
in the wrong body with
a mind that has

merged with other
rickettsias in a zone
that imitates our genders

somewhere; everywhere.
"What's it mean to be
different from the neck down"
he asks? Then i say,

while lighting up a Marlboro,
that it's a difference from the neck up.
I was working really hard.
so was he.

and i think of Lou Reed...and start humming the tune...
and thinking of how unaccepting we can be of people...we are who we are...
and from the neck up, what we want to be...from the neck down...what we are given.
sometimes we have to work so hard to understand each other...i wonder why that is. you are so gifted...i saw some Robert Creeley in this.
