While mountaineering

While mountaineering

A Poem by h d e rushin

WHILE MOUNTAINEERING, LISTEN
ALL THE TIME.
IF YOU THINK A THING IS TRUE
DRAG IT TO YOUR SNOW SHELF.
IF THAT THING
(THAT YELLOW THING YOU'VE DRAGGED)
ESCAPES IT'S FROZEN ENCLOSURE
NOTHING HAS BEEN LOST AS IMPETUS.
THE ONLY THING THAT STRIKES ME
AS HAVING VANISHED
IS THE HOPE FOR
THE POETRY IN IT;
THAT
THE LANGUAGE
BE CIVIL IN IT'S
PERMISSION TO
ENGAGE
THE MARGIN
THAT CARRIED
US OUT OF TIME.

Beautiful metaphor for the duality and importance of the creative process. At least that’s what it said to me just now. I alway return to mountains when I think of writing something new, so it felt a natural place to visit and contemplate the act and art. Compelling and thoughtful work.
