The Troll

The Troll

The Troll

Dylan Chase James

In the darkest forest lived an abandoned soul,
Numinous whispers said that he was a troll.
In early years rejected, his path took a turn,
He followed the tumbleweed, bracken and fern.

To his murky home in the heart of the wood,
Where the angels watched as time then stood.
The troll's mind was demented, his feelings unsure,
But in torturous depths, his heart remained pure.

The heart in its cage was merely frosted with ice,
It still kept on beating although riddled with mice,
Until by the pools of the place was a girl,
Adorned the fair maiden in ribbons and pearl.

Her eyes shone through the dark hair which fell,
And the heralds harked as heaven left hell,
The troll fell in love with the sight of her beauty,
But the maiden walked on as if it were her duty.

She said that the troll was not self aware,
Her warmth could not stretch to this thing but despair,
She knew not of the cherubs that despondently sighed,
As the troll knew the truth for the turn of the tide.

One day he would sit and feast at the table,
And for her stance, she would be rendered unable,
To dine with her warrior when it came to the end,
The one that was meant as her true love, her friend.

Thus the sky tuned black and the moon was no more,
The troll transformed to reveal only his core,
Troubles which had created his dragon-like head,
Were to end with the system and the tears he had shed.

And so she then turned to the prince as if fate,
To witness the change hearing, “ Darling too late.”
