last night's stars are now

dew drops in the morning sun

you can't fool me, no

And to summon as much wonder as the night before. A wonderful thing, life's changing perspective. I like this very much. Nicely done.

thank you for your kind words
So true! Brings the overwhelming abstract into personal perspective. I love this poem.

I can't think of something more scientifically accurate. In fact I prefer this "knowing". thanks Ed.

i was hoping i could count on you, old buddy
Except when it's the Sunday morning after the Saturday night before, and you wake up in the grass thinking "never again"

thank you for your lovely comment lynn
'There's no fool like an old fool' so the saying goes. In this instance, 'tis more fitting I feel to observe that; 'here we see no fool, simply a man with the wonder of a child still held in his eyes.'

You are wise even beyond your years Edward.

Beccy.

you find so many ways to say the nicest things
that's right....and never mind the constant likenesses poetry wills us to. Or the reasons why
the truth of it delights us as we lay dormant in the dark. All that matters, ultimately, is that which
transforms water into light; unbelief into precedent.

and I agree........wonderfully written.....dana

connections, some seem so fanciful...i guess it's the sparkle that matters
Everything must pass, and if beauty is in the evanescence then, like the stars, the dew will too lose its sparkle. The wise owl has seen it all before and refuses to be bewitched. Not with a filler, let it be said, because without that final 'no' the last line would be too emphatic. Also, it wryly echoes 'now' in the opening line, so the sound we can hear in the wake of the poem is the bird hooting, now no.
