In The Darkness of Love

In The Darkness of Love

A Poem by Eddie Phillips
"

The mind is tortured when love is dark and pitiless.

"

Like Orpheus and Eurydice, I plead in the darkness to be by your side.

I fear the isolation that breeds the loneliness I feel inside.
Tortured by your flirtation, I twist in the winds you entwine.
Lost in love's frustration; images of you burn across my mind.
You said you didn't need me, but still, you keep me near.
You claimed I was beneath you, but still, you whisper in my ear.
What do you want from me?  Why play this torturous game?
Is your aim just to hurt me or drive me completely insane?
My madness is never temporary; I hear its footsteps all the time.
It beats on the door of my reason and smashes the windows of my mind.
I simply ask that you love me or leave me!  I need you to decide.
I can't take this endless torture that mimics love's sweet design.
It is hard to hold on to your love when shadiness makes it hard to find.
I beg you to embrace me in the light, so I can escape my darkened mind.
