An Ode to the Villains

An Ode to the Villains

A Poem by NotaBene
"

An ode to villains, people who did not get their happy ever afters.

"

An Ode to the villains, the princesses who never got to be

whose dreams were merely just optimistic fantasies.

and whose princesses and princes were disguised hideous beast.

Here's to the Villains whose hearts were never mended.

to those whose happily ever afters weren't happy when they ended.

and those who had to say goodbye to every person they befriended.

Here's to those who were always shunned and ostracized.

To those who had to lie, cheat, and steal to find a way to survive.

to those who gave their hearts , but all they received in return was lies.

Here's to those who could have been heroes if they had been saved.

If they had just been given the love and attention that they so desperately craved.

Here's to the monsters who were not born , but were made.

Here's to the villains who were never given a chance.

and who found unwarranted heartbreak, instead of a budding romance.

and those who didn't make it to the ball, before the last dance.

An ode to the people who were never given a chance to believe.

to those who never found true love, who only found grief.

Here's to those who became the villains they always told us we would be.

Villains are made not born as you so aptly point out. My favorite line "Here's to the Villains whose hearts were never mended to those whose happily ever afters weren't happy when they ended"

I really appreciated this concept. I have always been obsessed with stories of classic fairy tails from the villian's point of view. Not everything is black and white, good vs. evil. There are shades of grey and people are not simply evil for no reason. Great piece, and wonderfully written.

I'm very impressed with the concept of this piece, it's a bold thing to attempt to write about and you managed a fair stab at this amazing topic.
I really do adore odes and to the downtrodden well, it's too good not to read many times...

And there are no villains but unfortunate circumstances that made them so. It is peculiar (and it was about time) that someone sang about those "usually deemed unworthy" and simple state the truth. Great message, great poem (:
