The Absence of Feeling

The Absence of Feeling

A Poem by danielle.

Sometimes when I am alone
I close my eyes and travel to a place of softness

Where long hair caress bare skin
On slides of sepia playing frame by frame

I try to slow them
To capture each before it slips away

Commit to memory

But every image changes faster than the one before

Until the pictures are just a faded blur

The space she filled is vacant now and the emptiness is numb

Like needles and pins in a limb that has succumbed to the weight of its body

In everything lost
There must be something to be found

"In everything lost

I'm a sucker for a good ending. These two lines alone are well worth their weight in gold!

I love this. It's good to see desperation expressed in an artful way, instead of a dreary way. I was first drawn in by the title, which is thought-provoking enuf. But then the message seems to spiral into an ever-deeper well of bewilderment, all expressed in interesting & unusual imagery that adds lots of feeling & visualizations to this quiet sinking journey into oblivion. Then there's an uplifting thought at the very end . . . exactly the way I like for such a poem to end, with a dot of hopefulness or at least meaning! *smile* Fondly, Margie
