Unsung Heroes

Unsung Heroes

A Poem by CircusNerd

Lost in the darkness

Forever fighting fate

Crying through the shackles

Of a vague identity

Moving forward

For there's not other way

To return home

To find their way home

No matter the distance

I'll peer through the night

Hoping for a sign

A sign of life in the air

The unridden vitality

The unbroken hope

Continue to rise

Let not mysteries go to waste

Against the blood-ridden skies

The outcries of pain

Emotional and physical

Forgotten warriors

Unsung heroes

Lying dead beneath the earth

Unsung heroes

Lie in peace

Haa. My dad used 'unsung heroes' in one of his life speeches. Somehow, I guess I just twisted that idea into something completely different :D thanks dad!

To be honest, this poem caught my attention because the name looked like a tribute, and it also reminded me of a phrase "The Unsung War" refering to the war fought by every soldier, mentally, meotionally, etc, that often goes unnoticed and forgotten when they return home from a combat theater.
However, I like the poem. It could use some work, as I am not quite sure as to what the poem is refering, unless of course, this is what you meant to happen. If it is, I would suggest making it a bit more clear to the reader. Otherwise, I would like to be able to understand the "watcher" more. Why does he / she wait and watch? Does she know one of these unsung heros? I beleive there is a lot of backstory that could be included or hinted at in this poem. Incorporating this would make the poem much better in my opinion.
