What You Did

What You Did

A Poem by Emily
"

Because of your dumb mistake

"
You put me here
In this place

I am living in this foster home
Because of your dumb mistake
I have to suffer because of what you did

I want to go home
Where I don't share a room with someone I don't know
But no,
I have to pay for what you did

If you would have put down the needles
Right then
Right when they told you
They would take me away

I would never be here for what you did

Now because of what you did
I have to live here
Without you

I want to go home
And kiss your head

But now I have to
Pay for what
You
Did

It is heart breaking how some kids that were taken away from their parents have a love/hate emotion towards them. The most important thing parents need to give their children is love, and often when drug addiction is involved, they parents are more focused on their fix than their kid. It's awful to think about how many children go through this. I think you captured well what the thoughts of a child going through this would think. But it is just only the surface of their thoughts on the topic. A great write! :)

Oh Gosh! I can only imagine their days, though I feel there is a bit of much repeatition of verses that wake no new emotion, but I understand it might be for emphosis, not the best in poetry my self, but peal of the skin, scan deep let me cry in favour of that kid, let me sob, lament and wheep, cause me brain fiasco with your words.

Otherwise i did like the message, and some word choices such as the opening two lines.

Thank you so much!!
I was raised in foster homes. Some good and some bad. Sometime better for kids with no place to go. The poem wrote with a honest pen. Foster homes and being separated from your family. Is very difficult. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thanks for reading!
It's like this is dedicated to your friends in foster care, like you know how they feel and sympathize with them.
Nicely done!

No problemo!
I understand how foster children feel, but only to a certain extent. Maybe I haven't been there, but I take trips in my mind of how it would be. I know that I might never know, and I wish the best to those who feel this way. 'What You Did' is a look into the child's mind, and I love the emotional connection in it.

Thanks Abby!!
I was in foster care for a time when i was a child, and although it wasnt for a drug addition, this hits the hammer of the nail. I felt hurt, scared and mad but mostly i just missed that parent. Powerful read. Great Job
