Seasonal Complaints

Seasonal Complaints

A Poem by emipoemi

In Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring-

No matter what the seasons bring-

We all, however bold or sane,

Are always likely to complain.

In Autumn comes a crimson tide,

Which leisurely flows far and wide.

In awe we watch its splendour spread

As trees shed leaves of gold and red.

Yet with the need to take a rake

To all these leaves, our backs would break.

We daily labour in the yard:

O why must Autumn be so hard?

By Winter snowflakes swirl around

While softly whitening the ground,

Developing a wonderland

Where peace and joy walk hand in hand.

But when air freezes, pressure falls,

And frost comes creeping up the walls.

We’re wrapped in blankets sevenfold:

O why must Winter be so cold?

The sun of Spring melts all the snow,

And helps the gardens neatly grow.

Life flourishes and colours gleam

Once more as in a pleasant dream.

But showers rain throughout the days,

There’s seldom ever any rays.

We from our windows watch, upset:

O why must Spring be grey and wet?

The Summer skies are often clear,

For mainly would the sun appear

To dry up all the floods of Spring,

While birds and insects chirr and sing.

And yet humidity takes hold,

Impelling us to want the cold.

Our salty sweat cannot be fought:

O why must Summer be so hot?

In Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring-

No matter what the seasons bring-

We all, however bold or sane,

Are always likely to complain.

Extremely well written; has the familiar tone and beat of the Romantics era, which is good in my book. And yes, we so often we complain and not just about the weather, though it is a favourite topic this side of the pond. T

"Seasonal Complaints"
emipoemi,
This poem of yours brought such comfort. Within the familiarity of the seasonal changes, nature and people live and are affected. Whether we are to hot, cold, wet we will be influenced by what we feel and do not like being stretched but this is how we grow and mature. This was a delight!
Blessings,
Kathy

Glad it was! Thanks for reading.
Oh. My. Gawd! Every time I read something from you my heart smiles. As I read this I couldn't shake the feeling that I too complain a lot. About literally everything. This is very relatable. It's very hard for me to find a poet I adore... But I must say I adore you and your work. You made me fall in love with poetry again. Thank You for that.

I absolutely love this! I admire and enjoy your ability to structure and rhyme in a way that seems effortless. It makes it a delight to read. The message is profound as well, drawing attention to the fact that we are never satisfied despite the joys presented to us.

That was the intention! Thanks for your comments.
I thought it was only the English who complained about the weather!!! A very well written and amusing 'traditional' poem. Eight syllable lines make feisty reading, and the rhymes are not at all forced. It reads well and flows well, and gave me a smile!

You'll be surprised how many about the Earth complain about the weather. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
