Distan Love

Distan Love

A Poem by emipoemi

No distance is as onerous

As it appears to be.

Yet fear of it still causes love

To be in jeopardy.

Though love would often bring about

The longing for the one,

The distance shouldn’t be what makes

The sacred bond undone.

No matter what, love always spreads

Its arms out far and wide,

And blesses lovers with its charms

Wherever they reside.

And never is it strained or pained

While stretching out this way,

For love can reach across the Earth

To lovers’ heartstrings play.

No matter if it’s overseas

Or simply down the lane;

In Chad, New Zealand, Canada,

Japan, Brazil, or Spain,

True love wherever can be found-

As much so close as far:

Toronto may love Montreal,

And Dallas may Dakar.

And yet there have been many times

Where love’s endearing hold

Was broken, gravely wounding it,

And filling us with cold.

For love is but our inner fire

Which e’er must blazing stay.

And if we never lose the will,

We’ll always find a way.

Although time flies unfairly slow,

And distance causes pain,

Our hopes and dreams conjoined with faith

Shall make the distance wane.

There’s thus no need to fret about

What distance may have done.

For closer lovers get in time

To be at last made one.

'Distant Love'
emipoemi,
distance in space, thought, or time is not the deciding factor. Love is a choice near and far. Commitment is the root so strong. A decision to love and be true is the strength and choice.
Blessings,
Kathy

I like the mentioning of specific places in stanzas 5 and 6, and stanzas 9, and 10 are my favorite. The last two stanzas seem to sum it up and say it all very well. I especially like the line “although time flys unfairly slow”.

I’m not too sure about the continuous use of “distance”, but I think maybe it works here. It causes it to flow well.

To be honest I think it gets better as it goes, but I’m not a big fan of the beginning. Perhaps it’s the continuous use of “it”. “It” is used to refer to distance and then to love and it confuses the two ideas for me. But it could just be my personal preference. I’m in no way an expert, so I know I could be wrong.

I enjoy the sentiment and I’m glad to have read it!

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Oh my gosh, this is so powerful. I recently had a long distance relationship and just couldn't do it. We tried for a few months, but, being a teen, I felt too mature with the relationship we had. Given time, I could probably do it, but not right now.

Beautiful poem! So very true.
