This is our World

This is our World

A Poem by emipoemi

Dead is the land-

Woods, mountains and leas.

Dead is the sky,

Dead are the seas.

Far and wide, day and night,

There’s no peace, care, or bliss.

This is our world!

You don’t see it, but it is.

Dead are we all,

Within and without.

As are all plants

Which in Spring sprout.

Our eyes seldom see,

In our thoughts we’re remiss.

This is our world!

You don’t see it, but it is.

Cold is our breath

Wherever we roam;

Cold is our heart,

Cold is our home.

Cold are even the truths

Which we heedlessly miss.

This is our world!

You don’t see it, but it is.

Nothing is real.

Nothing we see

Is that which we

Take it to be.

Our lives are dark paths,

Our home an abyss.

This is our world!

You don’t see it, but it is.

Gloom, grimness, grey!

Carrion, scree, sloe!

’Tis all that we see-

’Tis all that we know.

’Tis all that exists,

Yet ’tis what we dismiss.

This is our world!

You don’t see it, but it is.

We all are alone

Upon this dead land.

Alone we’re about,

Alone do we stand.

’Tis distressing, but true,

This is what is amiss-

This is our world!

You don’t see it, but it is.

first off
good poem
the repeated line at the end of each stanza is effective
and cleanly ties everything together

I'm sure most people have at some point
observed the world around them
and wondered why it is the way it is
and why we do nothing to change it
succumbing to defeatism we often crawl back under our rocks
fingers in ears
hands over eyes
yammering an obnoxious tune

or something
nice work

Yes, sometimes it is, it seems , that this is the only philosophical view to have. But, perhaps it is best that we 'don't see it'. You have described the pessimism of this view point very well.

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely as always. My favorite stanza is the one about Nothing being exactly as we see it. Rings very true. :)

Thanks for reading.
A poetic description from a pessimistic viewpoint; to see the worst aspect of things and believe that the worst will happen! Good structure, composition and poignant write .. I'm sending you a 'Smile' :-) to help soften the day!

This is bleak, cold, and stark. More truth than fiction, and the reason why I just tune out the news anymore. I see it; but knowing there's nothing that I can do to change it, I just choose to tune out the noise. This is a reminder of the never-ending spiraling of the soul of man. I hope there's hope. I hope there is.
