Music

Music

A Poem by emipoemi

It’s music most that makes the world go round.

No matter what, no matter where, it’s there

Enchanting all with its melodic sound.

The echoes of its voice each day resound

With its unique and satisfying flair.

It’s music most that makes the world go round.

In ev’ry note is something so profound

That elegantly whistles through the air,

Enchanting all with its melodic sound.

And, as the people go to where they’re bound,

It rids their minds of ev’ry sombre care.

It’s music most that makes the world go round.

The spectacle it brings is so renowned,

The influence it leaves beyond compare,

Enchanting all with its melodic sound.

There’s nothing that within it can’t be found,

There’s nothing that it wouldn’t want to share.

It’s music most that makes the world go round,

Enchanting all with its melodic sound.

According to Wikipedia; ‘Music is found in every known culture, past and present, varying widely between times and places. Since all people of the world, including the most isolated tribal groups, have a form of music, it may be concluded that music is likely to have been present in the ancestral population prior to the dispersal of humans around the world. Consequently, music may have been in existence for at least 55,000 years and the first music may have been invented in Africa and then evolved to become a fundamental constituent of human life.’ Your delightful write certainly encapsulates this theme most eloquently! :-)

Music is extremely special for me. Yes to all you say, but in addition for me it is SO evocative of times past. I can hear a snatch of a song from the 60s and I'm there by the Juke Box with the sun and waves just outside the window and alluring smells of strawberry from the Milk Shake counter.

tho twoo. Glad you enjoyed it.
Being a musician, I can really appreciate this piece. Music is a language we all appreciate. I like the majesty you've given it through your word. Nicely done. :)

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
This is a magnificent villanelle. For me, the descriptions mostly apply to classical music ... I usually find it calm and soothing, even when the tempo is quite fast; but of course, it applies to other types of music as well.
What I love most about this piece is how the repetition (characteristic of the form) drives home the point without becoming monotonous. The challenge of the villanelle, other than the rhyme, is to make the repetition fit the natural flow of thought, and you've done just that in this piece. The message brought two quotes to mind:

"Music is the most entrancing of the Poetic moods."
- Edgar Allan Poe (paraphrased from his essay "Poetic Principle.")

"Without music, life would be a mistake."
- Friedrich Nietzsche

- William Liston

Music can make us feel a wide array of emotions. The world would be a very somber and quiet place without it.
