Sad Writes Strongest

Sad Writes Strongest

A Poem by emipoemi

Poetry of cheery nature

Sets the heart and soul awhirl,

Weaving light and love across the world,

Deeming life a wholesome pearl.

Poetry of nonsense notions

Conjures laughter more and more,

’Til we’re bobbing on the ceiling,

Even rolling on the floor.

Yet, though they prove poetic

In their beauty, truth, display,

It’s the poetry of mournful matters

Which bears the stronger sway.

For ’tis written with a whimper

And a stab that stings the soul;

’Tis a testament of blood and tears

That reveals an empty hole.

And the poets cast in shadow,

As those hopelessly forlorn,

Are the most who would be wide awake

In the wee hours of the morn.

Ever watching from their windows

As the world wafts firmly by,

They but write to keep on living,

Or they write to simply die.

I do agree sad writes strongest. I have to tell my muse to vary her thoughts and to stop me writing sad stuff all the time. Every now and then I get a funny one thrown in the mix. This is a well written, and flows beautifully emipoemi and your last stanza, struck a chord. Yes, your last stanza, really had meaning for me.

Dear Emi, Before I mention anything else that your poem made me smile about, let me make this very clear that your poem's title is very real & catchy, for the truth it simply and beautifully speaks of :) I so love the title of this poem and had being willing to read and review it as soon as possible, and am happy to do it now, finally! :)

As for your poem, these words connect with the title well, and justifies it.It is very relatable, very simple...yet very deep...and that's what i liked the most about this poem:) the lines from your poem were my favourite :

"It’s the poetry of mournful matters
Which bears the stronger sway."

....and, :

"They but write to keep on living,
Or they write to simply die." ( This is true indeed! for writing sometimes becomes our sweetest escape from all the pain a person goes through)

Thankyou so much for writing and sharing this poem. It was subtle and eloquent, and I enjoyed reading it :) Well done!

Happy writing to you:)

“bobbing on the cieling” reminds me of Mary Popins! I really like the sentiment of this poem, and the fact that you included what happy and funny poems are like. I thought the comparison of those poems helped to imply the stronger emotions that come from poems that are inspired by sadness.
Really enjoyed it!

Very illuminating. Sorrow is a powerful emotion that conjures powerful words. Powerful and beautiful. The poem it's self is such a breeze to read. Well done!
