Mum, You Are

Mum, You Are

A Poem by emma
"

A poem I wrote for my Mum when she moved half a world away

"

You are the warmest rays

of the summer sun

The softest breeze

whispered in our ear

You are the fiercest winds

of winter

The gentle waves of the bluest seas

You are words of comfort

kindness and love,

Brutal and honest, and full of love.

I don't have to see you

to know that you're there

Side by side, or far apart

You are always here

Inside my heart.

Nice use of contrasts between power words like brutal and fierce opposing gentle words like kindness and comfort.

Also, this is the poem of a mature woman who now sees the trueness in her mother. My guess is that at an earlier time those strong things now appearing as virtues were not viewed in such a well adjusted light. :-) At least that's my experience with my own parents.

Very good writing.

A lovely tribute to either mother nature or the one person who we can seriously replace,we only get one mum forgeting the stepmother culture of today.
I liked the play on words and the wondering sentiment written in this poem, have you considered sending this off to a magazine? you would be on to a winner
