That's what i really am

That's what i really am

A Poem by Emrick

a candle in the wind,

a vest in the cold,

a fire place in the desert,

a fan on a mountain,

that's what i really am.

a red snapper in a lake,

a tilapia in the sea,

a dolphin on land,

a cat in the forest.

that's what i really am.

asparagus in afghanistan,

sugar snaps in pakistan,

an orchad in Somalia,

lettuce in tanzania.

that's what i really am.

a priest in hell,

a homo in heaven,

a master treated like a slave,

a prince living in a cave.

that's what i really am.

judaism in Mecca,

Islam in Jerusalem,

buddhism in Delhi,

hinduism in Bangkok.

that's what i really am.

corruption in England,

Discrimination in Finland,

patriotism in Liberia,

justice in Nigeria.

that's what i really am.

Clever, this definitely goes against the grain. It finds meaning in all the contradictions. The speaker of this poem is many things, but mostly a revolutionary with a lonely vision. This is a very intelligent write. Parts are sad, others are almost funny, like the asparagus line. You many places, starting small, and going broader. I liked this quite a bit. Good job.

All these contradictions are very clever. It's true that all people are walking contradictions, but the speaker here is even more lost than normal people, a lonely wanderer. All of your contradictions are about something not being in it's place, so I get the sense the speaker here is away from home, or can't even find his home, and feels terribly out of place. Very cunning write. Thank you.

This is a very interesting poem. I like how you utilized the rare or contradicting attributes of each symbol in each place. Very cunning idea!

Full of contradictions, I love it.
A lonely soul so apart from what surrounds you - you feel lost in the immensity.

More beautiful than words can say.

Well done. We are all walking contradictions, after all. It reminds me of a few life lessons. So many colors, nothing is as simple a matter as black or white. We are all holding so many different things. We are all so different yet more similar than we realize. Thank you for sharing.

This poem is so relatable. I think everyone in some way is a contradiction. I also believe that in some way, we all don't belong. This is very insightful.

Interesting. Some of the statements are sweepingly broad, but they make their point. Thanks for sharing.

I love this, but I have two questions, 1.) what is a tilapia and 2.) what does, "a homo in heaven," mean? I just don't understand the line lol. But other than that, I love this, I think it's truly amazing.

i really liked this poem, although i dont agree with all the contradictions you have mentioned, specially in the fifth stanza, if you wanted to say you are the impossible, islam is so much spread in jerusalim....you would better say, islam in vatican for example, neverthless, i like the poem so much
