Eyes Wide Shut

Eyes Wide Shut

A Poem by emily

With eyes of compassion; gleaming spheres of anonymity withheld

I see the bird perch upon the dusted sill

Through glass fogged to mirror my vision

Eyes stitched shut with the thread of corruption

And glinting needle of manipulation

Petals mark a path through settling earth,

Spotted crimson blood upon stone

Warm with odium as wind echoes lies

Born from wetted lips curled to a snarl

Drip, drip scarlet drops from unjust wounds

Words cut bone and mould the mind

Slurs plunged deep, fatally cold

Why degradation seized control

Through maze of insanity snaking the globe

Blindly follow loose petals astray

Birds eye watching with a marbled stare

Cocked head turning with a robotic sneer

An eerie caw makes no sound but pierces through the toughest veneer

Within humanities shrieks of anguish

Pregnant sorrow swells beneath the breast

When choked upon the stone of silence,

Hushed weeping trembles Earth with death

Abhorrence taints soil slick with poison

Beak bound shut with the flowers stem, the Protea plant

At the end a light of hue that tears the thread binding my eyes

Colour returns all is clear, wings spread wide

And grass grows over the burgundy blood…

poetry mentioning social issues have always interested me. but this is is special for the way it flows and narrated. the way you have mentioned the view point of a bird. the choice of words is perfect and conveys the message clearly.
a wonderful read!

i like the hopeful ending.
power hungry feed on blood of innocent. when the tolerance and unjust is above the red mark there rises a smoke of revolution. the clash is inevitable. the handful parasites are trampled.. sonner or later. but the key things is we dont walk over scarlet marshland. your poem draws sense of fear and discontent for what is going around. very imagary poem.

This was very well done. Great use of imagery to push forward the meaning and the emotions behind the words.

This is good.
Sadly because of the number of reviews you can't be considered for my contest, but nevertheless I want you to know you are a wonderful poet.

I completely love this.

This reminds me so much of America and how our eyes are so shut to what is going on around us and too us. Social poetry indeed done at it's best. I like the view point of the bird and the use of your words as you take us a long on this journey.

Birds eye watching with a marbled stare.
Without being fluffy, this dark poem is easily a two thumbs up, such a
sensuous poison, has an other-worldly feel and the hanting flow
brings the vision to life, this is written from a true poet's pen :)
