Said a Lover

Said a Lover

A Poem by Evita
"

A foolish little poem about two lovers.

"
Said a Lover to his love:
Leave not yet, my turtle dove

You came here but moments past
why leave early, let last our repast

Said the Lady to her lover:
You think yourself far too clever

Hours have passed, our food is finished!
a timepiece hardly lies, now does it?

Most distraught, the lover replied
when he her pocket watch spied
:

Oh by Jove, use your slipper or still lake
destroy that ticking devils piece quick

I cannot abide it's telling tock
Give it here, I have this rock

Laughingly, said his fair Lady love,
slapping him lightly with lacy glove:

Time is a harsh mistress to us all
we must abide by her call

In your company she does fast fly
but alas, mere men cannot long in Eden lie

Defeated man took her hand
and implored beseechingly:

Of thy form and voice still
my eyes and ears have not their fill

Said the Lady to her Love:
The stars and moon are now above

This lovely day has turned to dusk
and dusk has come round to night

Still say you the time for parting is not right?

Lover to Lady said:

Who cares for night or day
Tis you I wish to God would stay

Touch your heart to mine dear
It shall thirst when you aren't near

Lady replied in exasperation:

So take to the bottle then
until I return to you again

The hurt Lover replied steadfast:

I won't drink spirits to lift my own
I will suffer the pain of being alone

For all more sweeter it will be
when we reunite

But one last heady drink of you
before you depart our solace

Let the air breathe in your scent
To mark this rendezvous

So when you are no longer here
I can still breathe of only you

Lo! Romeo and Juliette have golden skin and are thus named Shanti and Prakash! The language and flirting and all of this, was far superior to what you might believe!
