Undoing

He gazed deeply into her eyes, the intensity of his gaze urging her to look away yet keeping her eyes riveted to his. Slowly inching his face towards hers, still looking into her eyes, he placed a soft kiss on her lips. A low moan escaped her lips. She placed her palm on his cheek pulling him in for more. More. The one word that kept running through her mind over and over. She was in love with him and there was no turning back. Running her hands through his hair, she kissed him more urgently. He gently lifted her shirt, ‘Mmm’ he murmured appreciatively before tenderly placing a kiss on each of her breasts. She knew he didn’t love her back, yet she couldn’t help but delve deeper into what she knew could never be hers. She was lost. He left a trail of kisses down her stomach before gazing up at her once more. It was this gaze that she had fallen for and as his face inched towards hers once more, her breath got caught in her throat as she realized the implications of what she was doing. He got up suddenly, lifting her up with him and held her close. ‘I love you,’ he whispered into her hair but she couldn’t bring herself to utter the same. She knew it would mean so much more to her if she did and so she did the one thing she knew how to do, the one thing that she knew would only hurt her; she kissed him.
