i'll take a bleeder, straight up

i'll take a bleeder, straight up

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

i'll take a bleeder, straight up

seldom love

innocuous to the heart

infectious longing

just a slight cut

no scars,

just tossing down some memories

at the nearest bar

in "on the rocks" splendor

so she'll  be farthest from my

 mind

by morning.

my voyage thru your many offerings have only begun
Back in my younger days when I tried to toss memories, I found this approach didn't chase those pesky longings & regrets from my mind by morning! *smile* (((HUGS)))

Smoke rings,Johnny Walker and melancholy, one step away from the edge...Your poem puts us right on the barstool next to you. Great "sharp" lines and imagery-"I'll take a bleeder straight up."- how evocative is that?! As Frank once crooned, "So, Set 'em up Joe"...and Jacob closed with "toss down some memories". Stellar!

erin-cilberto,
I get to enjoy a person's history by reading something of this nature. Let the past go (I think) Is the gist of this one? Great ending; so she'll be furthest from my mind by mornng. The words are spaced to bring a feeling of slow sips of a beverage and a slow release of memory too............? Anywasy this was really interesting to ponder. Bless ya. Kathy

Nurse, nurse, may I have another! Not harmful to the heart, infectious, slight cut, no scars...call me in the morning! I keep hearing "put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up.' I cannot drink as I once did, Now, when I succumb to alcohol, it is for the memories...wine means love, family, nurturing, romance, great sex, not alone...and if you are, temporary retreat from the pain of loneliness. This is another genius in briefs. :)

love these poems with the "bar" and "drinks" metaphors....

too often people resort to drinking to numb the brain when the heart's been scarred.

i like the spacing at the end of the poem. nice touch....

well penned....

old memories come to haunt so we wash them down with a few scribbles to free the space in our heads for new ones... guess it's like getting rid of the hangover...

Pleasure's everywhere even in worst-doing-things.

Your write portrays a very dark sides of someone who needs to soothe his mind, longs to please his heart & yearns for havin' someone close to the spirit for... removing past aches (heart-aches). But... bleeding, drinking & shrinking is not an option but a choice that's merely opt by those whose P-factor (psychological factor) is not strong so they often find please in drugs, drinks, desperation, possession, intimacy & aggression. Very thought invoking write you've come up with. Kinda written full of depths!
