the Lease Released

the Lease Released

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the Lease Released

bitterness rents an apartment
in the heart of things
when landlords of passion rage
and the cost of living in illusion
throws our emotions out into the street

we become beggars of exclusion
paupers lining the streets of emoting decay
frivolous refugees of transient hospitality

accepting small donations of a smile,
a slight touch
maybe one breathless kiss
here and there

yet the destitute truth is that

we will always be everywhere
but home...

Sounds like a 6th floor walk up, convenient for the area, unless you're getting your heart delivered.

"frivolous refugees of transient hospitality".

One cannot always be in control of one's destiny sometimes it is influenced by others which dictate your fate!

that is so true, andrew,

thank you for your words,

"ample make this bed
make this bed with awe
in it wait till judgment break
excellent and fair.

be it's mattress straight
be it's pillow round
let no sunrise yellow noise
interrupt this ground"

What Dickinson meant is that even war and the truth of death cannot interrupt the peace
and excellence of judgment. Or, as you have implied, being in and out of love is not
Virgil leading Dante thru the streets of hell but rather Sherman wanting to destroy Atlanta
for reasons of hate and not reasons of war. Broken love can be a sort of war my friend with
bitterness and decay it's whip lash. "Home", as I take it, has an animist, immaterial spirit.

Very interesting word choice in this one Jacob yet marvelously thought out. dana

wow, thanks for your insights, and kind review, dana.

Those first two lines are just ridiculously good, and the whole piece is a tightly drawn and nothing-but- the truth tale of how our unemotions can wholly unmoor a body. Fine, fine work.

A poem that speaks to those who walk the way of trying to find true happiness, to end up meeting with the one true companion - solitude in saddened days.

Emotions the poem evokes left my insides twisted in knots..

Wow Jacob! The closure in those final lines bespeaks such truth my friend. I seem to be there at this very moment. ~SP

Force and vigor!
I remember a homeless vet who wouldn't come in from the cold. You wonder where the bend in the mind started, how it seeped into deep caverns of pain.
The Vietnam nurse who refused to pray because of all the senseless bloodshed.
You can strike with beauty the tragedies of this Earth and illicit past memories of long days gone by.
Powerful!

regards,

Our emotions can be on a lease to release sometimes towards real home and security where we need hospitality midst the refugee camps. A sad but an excellent one, sir...:)........
