on that road again

on that road again

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

on that road again

prolific highway,

bi-partisan profits loomed once

until recession assimilated---

just words,

meaningless filament

strands of semantics

i found you by the side of the road

we were:

travelers twixt the tenements

but walls never really vacate

the city of reflect

now the poem is again a lone traveler

mirrored against a scenic destination

a vast rural effect

love with its thumb in the air

benevolently bankrupt,

hitching a ride to another smile

Sometimes, the lonesomeness has much to speak the heart & uncage the realism of lonely hours. Very deep and conceptual poetry you've come up with. Liked the analogies of loneliness.. especially the concept of "loner--traveler". Well, ye - everything's loner traveler, who's travelling the labyrinths of their thoughts/darkness/lonesomeness, Nice imagery.

i see so many highways here, Jacob...from those ideals that once lay the foundation for so much poetry to love, both long gone, maybe... and now, the poem is left with its thumb waving on the page, hoping to find that new home...i love the trips your words take me on and I don't need to use my air miles...great work, my friend

glad you could save the air miles, FT....:))))

thanks,

a sweetness lives in this poem. I remember a hitch from Arizona to Pennsylvania and what fun I had. My PTSD sitting on my back, sleeping on the side of the road, waiting endlessly for rides. I loved most of it.

Thanks for the memories Jacob!

Al

You inspires me. I wrote A Trip to Wonderland.
never! lol, benevolently bankrupt, isn't it funny how that word benevolently sounds the opposite of what it means? hitchhiking, hijacking is there really a difference when it comes to love? I sometimes wonder, but these stanzas rock "i found you by the side of the road

Beautiful writing here Jacob. Love these lines (love with its thumb in the air benevolently bankrupt, hitching a ride to another smile) Bravo! ~Sharon

i love the hitch-hiking metaphor....

sometimes it's a long time between smiles, but it's worth the wait.

great piece.

I love the whole hippiesque vibe to this as well as the nod to the song. It seems to be the road well traveled.
