Does someone really live there?

Does someone really live there?

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Does someone really live there?

my heart was condemned years ago

yet, i insisted on living with it anyway

a structure, borderline in resolve,

vacant of emotion,

windowless like shattered glass eyes

the wiring precariously riddled

with short circuited logic

no second floor, no second chances

living only in one room of it

only a nightlight lit for lost dreams

to find their way home

but this home is not a castle

it's just a moat keeping others out

and the double bolted door

has a sense of invincibility

it will never again

become pregnant with love,

no one else will find lodging

even if the roof blows off

i will remain calm, and

alone

until the city of need

comes to tear me down.

lonely, lost, empty, isolated, destitute but most of all companionless - that's what I got here - as I read down the lines I felt a heavy heart myself knowing that people do acutually do this - reach a point where they no longer let love in because of past relationships - wow I think - the pain must run deep as the darkest oceans and remain left out without a ket to return home ...

Impressive double parallel analogy.
Holds perfectly stable.
My favorite lines :

but this home is not a castle
it's just a moat keeping others out

It is normal for someone who has been hurt to be like that person...heart is like a room with padlock...but time will come it will be opened again when true love comes. Only true love can brake a heart of stone. It is so great to love and be loved...

Thanks for sharing this, sir j.

Never say never. Perhaps someone will build a drawbridge, avoid the dead bolt and crawl threw the window. There are renovation enthusiast out there that love bringing homes back to life :)

Beautifully creative words, echoing the hollowness, where once the heart was full of life and love. His home is not a castle, just a moat keeping others out.. says more than the sum of their parts. great write Jacob.
