a shattered cafe

a shattered cafe

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a shattered cafe

wasn't on the menu as an appetizer,

a serving of bullets,

wasn't on the program as a song,

the sounds of screaming fans

but not for the band,

wasn't meant for the poor people of Paris

to linger on the streets

in forever sleep,

the soccer ball deflated

the stadium suddenly silent

with mute explosion,

a goal of sorts,

but the agenda improvised, realized, compromised

and the question of which coach?

who sent in the play

that set Paris reeling under a red Moon

there will be no June

in the hearts tonight

November will be the only month

they will remember.

Oh sadness and sorrows if these lost souls- may they rest in eternal peace- may peace find its rest in the hearts of souls that shatter the dreams of many and destroy many a hope and dream🌹

My pleasure always🌹
Don’t know why this piece came up in my reading queue, having been posted 3 years ago, but that’s what makes your message even more soul-shaking. In the ensuing years, how many of these have there been? So many of these tragedies can be described similarly, albeit with different details. And we don’t write a poem for each happenstance anymore. Your words remind us not to become jaded & insensitive to this continuing plague (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Chilling. When I reflect now on what happened, it seems as though it was yesterday. But for the friends and families of those lost on that dreadful day, I can not begin to imagine the grief and pain they have suffered since. How on earth can you deal with it? How can you make any sense of it? Another great write from your talented pen Jacob.

Wow. So many sentiments come to mind in the echoes of the violence and I think you have done a masterful job here writing about the senselessness of it. Quite impressive. ~Jim

I found myself back in Paris inside your poem. What sadness to be killed anytime, on vacation, anywhere. Oh what terrible sadness.

A father wrote a note to the terrorists that he will not allow himself to hate, nor his son, because we are still strong with her gone as we were before. I am free and I will see to it that my son gets all the joy he deserves.

Those last two lines echo. You've captured our collective humanity and sense of loss that springs from such a horrific event.
