Dinner Party

Dinner Party

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Dinner Party

too many words

spoil the plot

Hemingway's recipe for brevity

cooked up quite the thematic feast

with savory in-between-the-lines flavor

and the invited guests

always leave feeling quite sated.

amazing write...I love the simplistic, yet enriched Hemingway-esque sauciness you
weaved into this very witty, brilliant write. your gift for words, is
truly astounding! I thank you for sharing ~ x ~ barrie

Because Hemingway somehow--magically--placed meaning between his words, he needed far fewer of them to communicate so much.
You and Papa often have that in common, Jacob.

I like the spareness of your poems...this one makes the point about its subject. Can the words be few but rich. you tune out someone who speaks constantly and wait for those that hang back and speak with purpose. my dad doesn't say much but when he does, I listen. less is more.

Ah, as my dear old mother used to say, "Don't make a meal of it". Now, I understand !!! Loved the metaphors that you cooked up.

This piece gives new meaning to "Meat and potatoes"
Ernie never minced words, but there was a meaning to every single one.

At his best, Hemingway indeed was Exhibit A for less-is-more, plus you never had to worry about which fork to use.

As one of my professors in college used to scream, "People, keep it pithy if you want to be published." It is true. A bite or two of spicy greatness beats a meal of blandness. I liked this one. Lydi**

Mentioning/including Hemingway is great. Brevity is the soul of wit. I like the image of a dinner party you created, the words are entertaining.
