a Nielson Kind of Love

a Nielson Kind of Love

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a Nielson Kind of Love

the way you left me,

it felt like i was a canceled spin-off

of a series that had topped the ratings

for so long, and then just started losing viewers

we became a stale item

the plots thinned,

no heart imagined in the episodes

so you cast me in a new show

some of the same characters, but without you

the star,

and nobody cared,

i was a supporting cast

that couldn't get your attention,

or an audience,

no one wanted to see my tears,

or hear my chronic sad dialogue

the scripts got monotonous

in only a few short weeks,

so now i am writing

and writing

and writing

working on the pilot of a brand new series

one in which the main character

finds new flare,

sharp lines

and fresh theme

no Repeats

just re-acclimation to life

and love

                  a show renewed.

Hopefully no re-runs. It is funny how a relationship can run like a TV show. That first season we can't miss an episode, then it's alright to miss some, we can catch the recap. Later every week is the same story over and over again, hoping not to get canceled.

I really like the way you did this! The theme of the cancelled spin off and the unenthusiastic audience conjured vivid scenes in my mind. Best not to recycle an old series, your idea about a brand new one is the right idea. Your title works perfectly!

And you hope love ranks high this time...
Because competition is tough and there are plenty of leading men.

I believe we will change life and place often. A writer write of the past with honor and of the future with hope. Thank you Jacob for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome my friend.
Being in love
we do this thing so well
that no rejection can stop this show
from running for hours and days
we create the theme .... put on the costumes
and bare it all

and if we fail
we write a new scenario
and jump right back in

i totally relate to you

Fantasy is not my genre but I feel most of my pieces have this touch of fantasy... (:
An impossible thing can be possible in writing. Writing is a refuge. Nice metaphors, sir.

yes, fantasy is not mine either...but weirdly enough, my favorite books ever are the Hobbit and Lord.. read more
we could call it "Happy Daze" with Jacob as 'the cilberto', leather jacket dude with the big hair and all the girls... it would be huge hit and all the spin offs would run forever and nobody, especially 'the cilberto' would lose any girls to whateversville... I can see the last episode as the sun sets in the west and the last breath is taken old cilberto says to his best love, come on my dear women we got some living to do and off they go on his old harley... the end!! so what do ya think??? ;0)

come on Jacob, I'll buy you a beer, let's get this new show up and running... lights, camera, action...

Sometimes relationships fizzle quickly when they started out with promise. Best to turn off the tv and move on...

You have described a relationship akin to a TV show...and how right you are. Hope the new episode works wonders..

it's funny how TV show characters closely resemble our relationships clearly through the use of showing us that they care, but in all reality when the lights go out and the film stops running, do they truly show the same affection that they show when all eyes are on them?
