Strewn Longings

Strewn Longings

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Strewn Longings

Orlando bloomed,

not acting, true mating, feeling in sync

with the music,

they danced in their own fashion

to their own tunes,

happy holsters carrying love

not guns,

blistering heat,

engaged fire

the passion of the prodigal suns

and then the bullets of deranged dismay

a supposed message contracting the turntable

to play massacred melodies

the red floor rising up to meet heaven

some notes escaped to the outside

but few could decipher the shots from song

most were too frightened to try---

Orlando bloomed,

dead flowers upon arrival

stems of systematic irreverence

for life,

now the aura is of muted

spirit,

as it rises above

the melee.

Thank you Jacob for thinking of them in your talent of sorrow.

I watched them in the air touched them all with light so their loved ones would feel less despair.

Regards,
Al

And I wonder what, if anything, will be learned?

Jacob what a touching tribute to such an awful and terrible violent act. If everyone had a poet's heart like you this would have never happened. I so saw images of that night while I read your poem.

Extremely well done.

Beautiful tribute to the tragedy in Orlando. It's hard to approach such a topic these days, as the long line of similar events blurs into a senseless mural. It's hard to figure out what meaningful thing can be said about something that's been talked to death already. So with that backdrop, I find it amazing the way your observations are so spot-on . . . "happy holsters carrying love not guns" . . . "massacred melodies" . . . and the most poignant of all: "red floor rising up to meet heaven." You were truly inspired when you wrote this one.

jacob, First of all, I loved the beginning play on words (Orlando Bloom?); your words convey the feeling of loss so profoundly displayed in Orlando and everywhere where muted hearts play funereal dirges in keeping with the tragic event, so WRONG...so disastrously wrong. We wonder why so many innocents have to die for an Allah who does NOT condone violence at all. Your wording is so perfectly directed to those of us who mourn for all who perished or survived this monstrous assault on the joyful message in the hearts of those who arrived at the nightclub that night to celebrate peace and love. So well done, my compliments. take care...dan
