shopping in your attic

shopping in your attic

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

shopping in your attic

in your aged mind
a shadow of what you knew
eclipses my store

Reminds me of the older folks I talk to and their stories, wise words ignored for the most part, really only a fraction of what they experienced is expressed. Our stores are nothing compared to what we could gather from their attics- our new ideas, new inventions, new anything are lacking the fine craftsmanship of older works, older words of illumination. We are eclipsed, yet hardly know it, we are so righteous in our advances. Don't know if this is what you had in mind, but it's what it spoke to me. Thank you

Yes it would! :)
If we listen...really listen...to our elders, there is so much we can learn. Once they are gone, the information goes with them. Good one. Lydi**

Nothing substitutes for the wisdom of age. My father is now knocking on the door of three score year and ten and seems to become wiser with every passing day.

I love this piece. It makes me think about seeing an attic, seeing all of the hidden mysteries inside. it shows just what it would be like to see things through the eyes of a grandparent.

This so reminds me of my grandfather. I could go rummaging in there for hours, sometimes perusing the same stuff, but always with fresh eyes. Thank you for the lovely thoughts in so few words.
