still on the leash of madness

still on the leash of madness

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

still on the leash of madness

dogs in a wasteland

tails between legs of broken logic

guttural growls of dissatisfaction

limping like mongrels with hyena feet

iambic lines of lame laughter

we are stray

beasts of selves

victims of our own trust

the system doesn't feed the mutts

only the show dogs get recognition

and those trophy wielding dobermans

are one party dogs,

obliterating the masses

and leaving the rest of us

not even one poor bone

to gnaw.

I've never been more frustrated with the elections and government before. We are thrown the scraps. Too much government and politicians, I'm sick of it all.

Again with the greatest of ease you've written another poem that incorporates comparisons so well. Always a pleasure.

thank you for your kind review, Autumn---

It does seem like a one party system and even in the state elections the putdowns are getting sickening. They are leaving God out so how can they expect God to bless America. Keep them coming Jacob. Valentine

Well said! All I know is, if something doesn't change soon and we can't reign these puppies in, I'm gonna pee on the carpet.

me too...and we'll both be hit in the nose by the newspaper for our accidents.

Your canine metaphores describes the rabid viciousness that now passes for reasoned political dissent. If only these inflated egoists had the command of language that you display, they could insult each other more effectively.

yes, grammatically incorrect barbs...back and forth.

thanks Norman.

Sounds like canine politics has entered the fray with gnashing teeth and slobbering jowls. You're right, j. The mutts are left with whatever trickles down while the show dogs prance around the arena. Good write

The below are true.
"limping like mongrels with hyena feet
iambic lines of lame laughter
we are stray
beasts of selves
victims of our own trust"
Trust can burn our mind and heart. Complete poem is amazing and thank you Jacob for sharing the outstanding poetry.

You are welcome my friend.
"Full many a flower is born to blush unseen,
And waste it's sweetness on the desert air"

You are so right. This world belongs to the show dogs and the party dogs. The rest have their tails between their legs.

Superb Jacob...this gives me the impression of the rich versus the poor. A "dog eat dog" world so to speak...cleverly done love...

Truly feel like our tails are tucked under our legs in this political world filled with corruption and deceit. Great write my friend.

You had me at Madness. I think a lot about our current state here in america and always feel disappointed. Disappointed by the people, politicians, whatever. The media and the corporations blow and they are giving us what they think we need. Mediocrity until death. Dancing with the stars and Iphones. But the thing about Mutts, jacob, is that they are more than likely made up of sturdier stock than the purebreeds and more lovable and loyal. Good, good, stuff of yours. CD
