it just figures

it just figures

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

it just figures

finding pain in perpendicular

outcomes,

the graph shows intersection

heart, impaled by words

actions on crossed lines

that cross lines

empathy bleeds

poets do the math

but write in semantic inclines

not equations

love doesn't always add up to a perfect sum

yet the work to get to the solution

is the reward,

and sometimes we do

find pain in perpendicular

outcomes

but that is the unknown variable

and is always a factor

even when the smiles survive

the computation.

OK! You've definitely stretched the mathematical analogy to the hilt here! Yes, I agree that love doesn't always add up. I also totally understand how working toward something (anything, not just love) is often much more satisfying than getting to any goal or reward. It's always best when the smiles survive! *smile*

dear Jacob.... the theory of relativity coincides
with Sherlock Holmes deduction... Romance is

Jacob... a little bit of knowledge is dangerous. Pat
It's in seeking the perfection, the adding up where our suffering in love lie. Lovely as usual

Had to smile at this one. Love doesn't ever add up to be a perfect anything. There is always that unknown variable in every aspect of our lives. Valentine

thank you for your kind review, Valentine.

Never thought of love in maths before.
But i suppose when two people walk the line.
They become the solution for a time.
It's when one comes out of the brackets, the problem unravels.

thanks for your insightful words, Paul...

I was lousy in math in school, but 'poets write in semantic inclines to find perpendicular outcomes' at least some of us do, which is why there are as many interpretations of a poem as there are readers. Good write, j.

Were you by any chance a economics lecturer or better still an economist. The way you include maths in your poetry is more than mind blowing.

It is indeed true that love does not always add up to a perfect sum and that is where the pain comes in. ::sigh:: Yet, when love works it works well. Brilliant write as usual, Jacob!
