once innocent bystanders

once innocent bystanders

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

once innocent bystanders

precipitous riot
clouds bursting like shotguns
the cracks,
uneven lines in the sky
the crowd murmuring rain-like smatterings
of blood tears

it's written on the crosswind
they will never surrender,
this storm has pushed them too far
and there is enormous space
between the angels

                      and the righteousness

they've surrendered.

Aloha Jacob, incredible poem. The innocence goes and all that is left behind is turmoil and unrest. This is so fitting for the place I call home at present. Your poem really touched me. Izzy

If I didn't know any better, I could say this applies to relationships as well. So many divorces.

In many ways, we can go back to the sixties and seventies and see the civil unrest happening on TV. These days, people dress differently, they carry devices that get them information quicker, but it is similar things being repeated.

"Those who do not know history are condemned to repeat it."

Those bystanders can only record it in electronic ledgers now. Shaking their heads knowing technology has changed, but ignorance, politics, differing opinions and social disruption has not.

Now that I've probably lost the whole meaning of the poem I'll move on. lol

Always a good one from you Jacob.

Yes, he did write that, but sometimes continuing the fight is counter productive.
