when the audio is experiencing technical difficulties

when the audio is experiencing technical difficulties

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

when the audio is experiencing technical difficulties

tried to articulate,
but you know us old poets

good at the page,
but tongue-tied and at rage
when the verbalization stagnates
they eyes meet in a stutter

and words seem like foreign objects
flying around as unidentified
mute aliens...

tried to articulate,
but just got a day older
more silent
and less aware of who i used to be
when the words were friendly variables

of an equation i could easily solve.

Ot's so true - generally in my excitement for life i race right ahead of my thoughts, try and retrace my steps, only to find I am lost in the Woods because the squirrels ate all the nuts I dropped to keep me on the path .... er .. sorry, what?

thank you for your words, and the smile, KWP...

I would disbelieve on principle any poet who said they could get the words right in conversations with important others. I mean we couldn't quote our poetry to them could we?
I find shouting at myself sometimes works as a default position.

I always get told never to speak at parties. So i asked this girl when the baby was due. She said she wasn't pregnant. But i had my emergency spade with me. So i then said to her, the bump would go down after after a few months. Was it a boy or girl. She said, I'm not pregnant, have never been pregnant. So i told her we would laugh at this when we got married. So anyway, it turned out to be her engagement party, to another girl as it turned out. My ex to be walked out on me through total embarrassment. So it wasn't all bad.

love that story---had a similar situation happen a few years ago.
thank you for sharing, Paul.. read more
It is certainly curious that a poet often embarks on a futile search for the right words to speak to lovers, relatives and friends. Though, apparently--at least, regarding one lover--the search for you has not always been in vain.
"When the audio is experiencing technical difficulties" says a lot, beautifully!

It's so easy to spit it all out on paper, but how often do the right words come out of our mouths. All ways something to think about Jacob, thanks.

Jacob, you hit the nail on the head with a big silence... I have asked this question often, why do the words flow on a page in a poem but remain stuck on my tongue when I really need to say them... is it because we are getting older or just more afraid of the consequences... written down gives you lots of time to escape... lol

anyway, it's kind of like luck, if it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all... if it weren't for poetry, I'd have nothing to say... I think some people would like that actually... lol.. but in your case Jacob there would be a big hole in the universe...

a little tongue tied as one forgets, the pauses are longer as are the stutters and then there is the misplacement of one's dentures on top of deafness, all contributing to good ole, old age .

Too many artifacts in the signal Jacob - guaranteed to mess up the output.
I like this one very much.

How well you capture the dryness of aging and the feeling of life unfulfilled in this one Jacob!

Getting older is a party pooper. The eyes, the memory, the thought processes...they go south on their own as though we're not important anymore. As though we've outgrown our usefulness. I see it in my father every day.

Good one.
