bursting into old flames

bursting into old flames

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

bursting into old flames

we couldn't keep our hands off each other

but the tongue lashings reddened the palms

of a fine tuned love

that imploded into a fiery dream

an upturned moment

once balanced,

flew into rage

hearts throbbing with painful bruises

the passion superseded

long enough,

and the scars still sore

smile once in awhile

when chance meetings

find a peace

we couldn't secure

then.

Great reflection on a former flame.
Sometimes we just can't seem to make things work out, but once the fires have burned themselves out we can find room for a smile and a chat, and in that we can find a sense of peace.

thank you for your kind review, Z...

Rekindling the flame of former passion gives cause for one to want to "burn the town down". We have the memory of it, the ecstasy of it, but with it comes the realism of how painful it was. The town that was once painted red now smokes from embers of regret. And even then, one takes the broom once in a while to sweep them away and pass through the flame again. It is then we realize what was and call for the fire brigade to douse the flame.
Your metaphors amaze me; this is no exception!
