Citing the Source from the Front Seat

Citing the Source from the Front Seat

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Citing the Source from the Front Seat

your lips were a foreign language

i learned to speak fluently

even the tongue twisting nature

of communication came easily to me

i studied late nights,

did extra credit

and found the assignments

would make my knees fail

but my heart get straight "A's"

unfortunately i only took your class

once, long ago

and graduated to other amenities

but the tassel in my cap

still held the redolence

of those studies

and even as i age away from more passionate times

i remember a few words

and still twist a little fervor

if the night is right.

Ah the wonderful memories of intimacy first encounter, especially when with a more experienced partner. Oh the marvelous lessons learned, and practiced later on with another. This reminds me of the movie "Summer of 42," which was wonderful, like this poem.

For some reason I see your writing as a short movie.. not quite X-rated but certainly visual! Your phrases in this are caressing instructions of how to.. .. More than likely, quite a few could learn from the Master Made me smile too, Jacob. :)

At least my review is here, j, though these words are slow to s tay put..h at s it.
Strange how when we look back we can see in retrospect the value of something we have shared when in the moment it felt urgent and exploratory and intense. Nicely penned as always Jacob.

WooHoooo! The people who "teach" us about love....they are forever in our minds and hearts and are the mean we compare everyone to later in life. The memories are sweet though...so sweet. Great metaphor. Lydi**

We never forget the special people in our lives and we shouldn't. They were a part of the years in life we learned, keeping with us important memories as we set off on our separate journeys. Even songs can remind us and nudge our heartstrings at times.

Wistful and bittersweet, as love-and-lost should be. Wonderfully crafted stuff.

and still twist a little fervor
if the night is right.

The contrast of youth's fervor and the later years is brilliant! Then we did hours and hours of 'hard labor' with a flourish and now we have to wait for the 'right night' even to relish it all in the mind.

The word 'redolence' is beautiful in such an apt setting. Great poem Mr. Jacob!
