slipping beneath the hard cover of a New York night

slipping beneath the hard cover of a New York night

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

slipping beneath the hard cover of a New York night

if skyscrapers came in chapters

rather than stories

how many pages high would cities read

sky blue dog-ears

bookmark rapture on the Hudson

luxury liners docked on lovers lane

the roar of taxis

as symphonic undertones

to the embrace

kisses in figurative leaning

concrete clouds play cumbersome chords with tender admission

that emerge from a Holland Tunnel of affection

and turn cumulus longing

into a novel of nebulous nerve endings

as our foundations touch

hearts are read

with careful perusal

and perpendicular periphery

sidewalk glances

flirting while hopscotching

down the avenue

imagining endings

that are merely beginnings

of a second book.

This is fantastic. A metaphor laden ode. Well conceived, and executed.

thank you for your kind words, Nipplegrinder.

I can't help it. While feeling the chaos,
I prefer the forest. Quiet moments shared by the wind. Still, a night in the city is always interesting.

Still not in the forest, but I can drive.
There are far more stories in those New York buildings than any architect ever conceived.
You are the Metaphor King!--always just the right touch.

I visited NYC saw people hurrying to keep up with your poetry, everyone watching the jet land in the Hudson, someone saying 'what does it mean' and as I read your poem fruition seemed inevitable.

If you want to get fit. Spend two weeks in New York.
The folks will push you to new heights.
What a rollercoaster ride it is.

Love the word play in this one Jacob and the metaphor simply has a spine and an index to die for!

I have never been to New York but I have seen Eddie Murphy's "Trading Places" at least 100 times. But this poem like Ginsberg's ultra famous "Howl" is the testament that this depraved world could be admired
although misshapenly, as if chapters are distances;
as if sentences is the train ride to Younkers. Your poems are like that unmistakable liquid we lathered outselves before wrongdoing. We keep the bottles of it warm and within our reach.....great poem/ dana

“Rapture on the Hudson”-this poem is a symphony of lyrical language, deft alliteration, amazing imagery...” a Holland Tunnel of affection”...New York never had it so good! Love this j.!
