the once irretrievable me

the once irretrievable me

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the once irretrievable me

irreversible you,

irreverent you,

inside out me

genuflecting at your reflection

no longer in my mirror

but my smile is transient

as were my tears for you

my years with you

the furor gone

upon your leaving

back to being me

in a heartbeat,

and sometimes a lone heartbeat

is much smoother

when irreversible you

are irreversibly gone.

The thing I love most about your poem (which I relate to very much, top to bottom) is in the third stanza, & that going right back to being yourself. I know that feeling so well. I can’t stop myself from conforming to others’ expectations so I prefer my life of solitude (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

i hear ya....thank you, Margie...
It's not such a bad thing, being alone. I've always believed its meant to teach us something about ourselves. We need only listen.

...... some times a lone heartbeat is much smoother when irreversible you are irreplaceably gone. Sounds like a relief after the storm disappears. You are relived you got your life back on track.

No such truer words of letting go and putting yourself back together without them in the way of life... Thanks for sharing

How this rings true at one point in time in my life...

Why suffer when when you can be free at last. Maybe find a love that's truly meant for you, that gives you all the happiness and pure love one deserves.

Something I'm blessed to have the second go around.

We have to find a certain kind of strength to become ourselves again, but that is a good thing if the other person has suffocated or tried to change us.

It takes a while to enjoy the independence , but then you find you have strengths you never knew you had and the world offers new horizons..

Emotionally sad. But with a poignant ending. That sometimes Is better to be alone, than to keep on suffering the pain caused by another. Better to have loved than never to have loved at all.

It is better to be alone and content than having our thoughts and time invaded by the ghosts of former loves, who can still haunt and inflict their damage for years, even after they have left. Time helps.....
