two in the afternoon

two in the afternoon

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

two in the afternoon

tea cups and compost
illiterate proximity to superfluous
engagement

conversation aloof
sits upon a roof
with a drunk raven

a little alcohol
mixed with poetic sips
of contradiction

can smell it on their breath
pretentious tongues
will imbibe madness one day

and the simple minds
will only complicate their matters
into unread, discarded verse.

Ah yes - the poetry of just being - seeing this doing that - everything is a poem if we prefer to see it. Know this so air of juxtaposition so well - thanks Jacob for reminding me I am not the only crazy person on this planet

I write some wild poetry with some Vodka and cranberry juice. I believe, I would be a better writer if I was drunk more. Nice use of words and thoughts my friend. Thank you Jacob for sharing the amazing poetry.

Love this style and the story behind it. The last stanza was my favorite. I liked how you paired simple minds and complications together.

Drunk ravens are raucous, you capture this in quiet verse that glides in at two in the afternoon.

Of simple words not simple mind
We're all just here to pass the time.
Nice verse,
I'll take the tea,
As to the rest
Well, you say it best ...
