ambush

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

ambush

the trees imposed silence

shedding inevitable

they proudly wore final cloaks

of many colors

they knew death would come

but most sought the dreams of spring

when they might reenter life

and green would be not of envy

but of a summer of understanding

and waiting

until the cycle

would repeat

and silence prevailed

over the din of leaves leaving.

Great personification of trees and other greenery. Yes, the cycle will repeat and even the trees know that is a good thing. Lydi**

Passing of the seasons. Never been a fan of autumn. Your words about the death of leaves reminds me why. Beautiful words, and your final two lines exceptional. Great work Jacob. Rich imagery here.

As we humans are part of nature, the inevitable cycle you describe should engender hope for our possible renewal.
An amazing poem!

The tree imposed silence, what a wonderfully vivid picture you paint there. I see the trees getting ready to hunker down for a while. Silence preserving the little energy required for yet another cold winter. I like the cyclic feel and it's hard not to embrace the natural turn of life in this one - X

The title always bring s to mind an unkempt lady garden on a sow....
Have just let the dog out for a pee and felt the onset of Autumn for the first time this year, my feet are bloody freezing. Love this time of the year when trees are lit like beacons as their leaves prepare to fall.
Morning Jacob, hope all is well and Trump gets his come uppance.

At first glance this work seems to speak of impermanence, but when read again we see that seeming impermanence is just part of an eternal cycle that does not end. Silence may prevail as the leaves fall, but summer will eventually return. Somber yet hopeful simultaneously. Love the spare wording. Well done.
