seasons of extinction

seasons of extinction

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

seasons of extinction

archways of golden maple

staples of the enduring fall

i have often fallen,

but the beauty is transparent

when the heart has already

been through enough

and it ferociously awaits its winter.

We’re so conditioned, so primed for the inevitable that we don’t want to give happiness a chance. The beauty makes me impatient. Bring on the ugliness, the gore. Now that’s more real, more convincing! Appreciated very much, Jacob!

i think sometimes we do feel only the ugliness is real...that is so sad, isn't it?

You’re welcome Jacob!
Time to hibernate I think. For all that is thrown at us like nature we survive. Beautifully written Jacob.

thank you for your kind words, andrew.

You paint a beautiful image in your first two lines. However, when your heart has had enough knock backs, you won't see that beauty in quite the same way. I reckon we are talking people here rather than trees. Well penned Jacob, much feeling conveyed here.

The coldness and reality doth bite. We learn through time the transparency of beauty, by knowing regret. Isn't it a pity that time and experience can alter the appreciation of a beautiful scene, by knowing that what we have thought of as beautiful in the past, cannot be so when you have lived to see its flaws.
The scene you paint is still beautiful though, for all that experience.
