Midnight's Desire

Midnight's Desire

A Poem by Erin Lee

Midnight's Desire

I want you here right now
Where are you?

My day is done and yet
I feel incomplete
without a goodnight's kiss
or a gentle stroke of my hair.
Why can't I dream of you
when my eyes open?

The days grow longer
even when the calander
grows shorter.
In my haste, I wake up exhausted
The excitement
of one day closer
feeds my obsession to be with you.
A torturous feeling grows
my need to feel your warmth,
to hear you breathe
to taste your sweet skin
as we nestle close
on a cold winter's night.
What kind of love makes
two people sleep alone?

The chiming of the clock
is constant.
I hear every bell strike
like death tolling for my soul.
But knowing that daylight
is inevitable,
So is our determination.
No mountain is too high
nor any river too wide to cross
to see your eyes
meet mine
I will walk to the ends
of the Earth
to steal just one moment
of your love.
I know where you are
though I can't see you.
You are in my heart
right where you've always been.
And that's good enough
to make it through
one more night.
Sadness falls asleep again.
