We Begin Again

We Begin Again

A Poem by Erin Thomas
"

Thoughts of driving back up to school. A poem about what a new school year feels like.

"

Rails pass, whirring by

perpendicular posts repeating.

Miles of green and golden

corn fields blend an abstract

masterpiece of perpetual serenity.

The few light clouds in the acrylic

blue sky fill my head with one deep breath.

Reaching the precipice of my inhale,

Heavy stone and ice flip my heart.

Once, twice it slips, slides down

to settle with all other thoughts

of avalanche, thunderstorms.

Spirals of seashells,

heights of the highlands,

values against values.

Only when they meet new values,

do we begin again.

The greatest thing about beginning again is it lasts a lifetime.

Excellent. I loved the imagery and alliteration in the first stanza, particularly: "perpendicular posts repeating."

Nice piece of work; keep writing.
