“Ah lets just get her one.” Jerry said. He pulled his chair to Sue’s side of the table. “What’s the big deal?”

“She’ll get tired of it after a week.”

    “Then I’ll jump on it.”

“You’ll forget about it too.” she said.

    “No I won’t.”’

“Yes you will. It’ll be like everything else.”

He sighed and moved back into the shade. She was sitting in the sun. Emma came out.

    “Can I go to Abigail’s?”

“Did you do your homework?” sue lowered her sunglasses.

“No. I’ll do it after I get back.”

“Do it then you can go.”

“You can. Just as long as you do it when you get back.”

    Emma smiled and ran inside.

    Sue was quiet.

    “What?”

“Why do you have to make me look like the bad guy all the time?”

    “I don’t do that.”

    “You do.”

    “You’re too hard on her.”

    “No. You spoil her.”

They were quiet. Jerry fixed a drink. He made her one too.

She took it and put it on the table. “She’ll be rotten.”

“No she won’t. Let’s get one. Wouldn’t it be worth it?”

“She’d forget about it when the new wore off and we’d be out seventy-three dollars.”

“Maybe not though.”

“Stop.” Sue scooted her chair into the shade.

“Who am I kidding.” he smiled and shook his head. “You won’t change your mind.”

“What’s that suppose to mean.”

“Nothing. My mistake.”

“I could.”

“Mhm.”

“I could. You could also do a better job of persuading me.” She got up and laid on a towel in the yard. The sun was bright and it’s light was harsh and made her skin look pale. He went inside.
