Moving Through Mud

Moving Through Mud

A Poem by Barbara Walker
"

A little bit of what it feels like

"
Moving my body,
feels like moving through mud-
such effort expended
a thousand times a day,
for every movement made.

Where once, I felt lighter than air,
this denseness brings pain and despair,
knowing it is never ending,
my shadow for life,
that overshadows my life,
with such a darkness,
when I long to see and feel the sun.

The monotony of the pain
is almost as painful
as the pain itself.
Tiresome pain,
boring me to tears
for years and years

and

there is no escaping
the savage hold of its bonds,
though I have prayed to numerous Gods.

Thank you very much!
You described the despair very well. I especially liked, "The monotony of the pain
is almost as painful as the pain itself." It says so much.

PS. When I'm on this page I see all kinds of ads for back problems. Must have something to do with your pain.

Thank you for your kind review!
The poem told a real story. I could feel the pain in your words.
"Moving my body,
feels like moving through mud-
such effort expended
a thousand times a day,
for every movement made."
I like the ending. Would be nice if prayers could answer could relieve the pain. Thank you for the amazing poetry.

Wow this is a great write. The last stanza like sums it all up, I loved it!

"there is no escaping
the savage hold of its bonds,

Tough to get old! I loved the poem's easy way of carrying such a heavy burden. I see my wife traveling down that same road, with too many others stumbling along too, and a heavy crowd of onlookers, helplessly gaping from over the fence. As you say, how is it possible we once all skipped along there, not seeing those gentle, torn souls obstructing our merry path's...Just to let you know, your poem here inspired me to rip off a response poem, dedicated to you. I hope you like it. Larry

I felt the heaviness just reading this, chronic pain is certainly debilitating, I hope writing it is in some way cathartic for you Barbara....'numerous Gods', I hear ya.
