Belong To Me

Belong To Me

A Poem by Barbara Walker

My love for you has always been in my heart,

no matter the years we've been apart.

Our past continually replays in my mind,

I wish for magic every time.

Many nights, as I lay in bed, alone,

I'd imagine you sleeping at home.

I wanted nothing, but happiness, for you,

after all that you had been through.

When I thought you had a wife,

I would try to picture your life.

Her face, I would try to "see",

but the face I saw, belonged to me.

I like the poem. Some people won't leave our mind and heart. I like the way you told the story in the poem. A very good ending to a excellent poem.

The ones we let go always seem to return and haunt us. This poem holds hope that maybe true love will prevail.

very nicely written.

This speaks to me of unrequited love, or a love that has somehow been "On hold" for an extended period of time. I see sadness, but also some measure of sweetness, mixed with a "Stiff upper lip" mentality.
Nicely versed, and well measured. Great poem!
